HISTORY

1873 - Prilep sees the construction of the first warehouse for the purchase and processing of tobacco. This year saw the birth of today's Tobacco Company.

1924 – The Management of State Monopolies in Old Yugoslavia brought decision for establishment of Tobacco Research Station in the Old Warehouse thanks to the influence of Rudolf Gornik.

1949 - A Resolution issued by the Government of Former Yugoslavia established the state-run trading company for tobacco purchase and processing - Prilep.

1955 - The production of cigarettes began, thereby turning the company into a manufacturing plant for tobacco and cigarettes.

1958 - The first factory for the artifical fermentation of tobacco was built.

1966 – A dam was constructed on an reservoar and a irrigation system enabling irrigation of the tobacco fields in periods of extreme drought.

1969 - A new modern factory was built exclusively for the production of cigarettes.

1971 - Plantation production of Virginia tobacco was introduced and corresponding curing facilities constructed.

1973 - A factory started up manufacturing acetate filter rods.

1970 to 1997 is established business-technical cooperation with BAT which brought the production of brands HB, PallMall, Lord and Kim in the factories of TKP.

1978 - The cigarette factory was rebulit and expanded.

1988 - Through a joint investment agreement with a foreign firm all stages of the technological chain in the cigarette factory were modernised.

1990 - The process of privatisation of the Company starts.

1994 - Founding of the production facility for adhesives.

1997 to 2006 Production of licensed cigarette brands Bond Street & Partner, properties of Philip Morris.

2003 to 2007 Production of licensed cigarette brands Ronson, Memphis Classic & Light as well as brand LD, property of Austria Tabac.

2014 – Establishment of joint company with Philip Morris.
